With a wide
range of LED products from white vibe LED lights to bright sparkling decorative
fans, one might get confused thinking which of these ultra-modern amenities
make a wise investment. What’s more challenging? With a plethora of factors to
look for, i.e. wattage, color rendering, lumens and beam angle, one might end
up thinking why can't I just pick my light from the wattage and be done with
it, if only it could be so simple.
Here are 5
questions to ask yourself before buying an LED light:
Q1. Could I replace my existing
lights with LED’s straight away?
Kudos, You
can. LED bulbs could be simply replaced without any hassle at all. All you need
is to look for the correct bulb base, pick the wattage you require, select the desired
color temperature (warm white or pure white) and your perfect LED is right
there enlightening you.
Pro Tip: Check out Orkus’s Exclusive LED
range, featuring a lamp picture menu, which makes it easier for you to select
the correct fitting before your next purchase.
Q2.How bright do you want your light
to be?
“The higher the wattage, the brighter
the light”. So,
always be mindful of the stated wattage output of an LED light before you buy
it. For example, an LED decorative light
has approximately 4-5 wattage of power cum light whereas an LED bulb could be
as powerful as 60 watts, asserting the fact that more powerful the light source
the brighter the light.
Q3. What is the ideal Bulb Base
you’re looking for?
While LED
bulbs could be availed in both screw bases and pin bases, the latter is the
most commonly used bulb base-type in India. Typically used in the standard
single bulbs, this type is also called B22 bulb holder base, as it caters to a
diameter of 22mm.
Q4. Color temperature - or the Color
of light that your bulb will emit?
While warm
white makes an ideal replacement for the traditional incandescent bulbs, they
produce a warmer yellow light at a color temperature of about 3200K. Moreover,
this makes the most common forms of LED lights that a majority of people are
used to.
On the other
hand, pure white light is more often used in commercial environments, as it
paves the way for an ultra-modern look at a color temperature of about 6500K.
Q5. Preferred Choice of the Beam
Angle?
Another
straightforward aspect of LED lights, the beam angle only refers to the light
scattered from the point of the light source. For example, an LED lamp with a
beam angle of 45 degree means it will remain focused on a particular area
rather than lighting up a larger space. So, it makes an ideal addition to your
kitchen worktops or wherever a narrow or focused beam of light is required.
Pro Tip: As beam angles vary from narrow
(45 degree) to wide (90 degree) to reflex (120), always be mindful of your
requirements. The wider the beam angle, the more scattered would be the light.
